the two sided mirror

You can always feel when you reach that point in your life when you don't really know where your going, or what you're doing. When you just act. Pulling a hell-mary every chance you get, screwing up, and then fixing it. Trying to live vicariously. generously. Like a leaf on water, buoyant and care free.
There is always that moment, that split second, when you lock eyes with the congruent figure reflecting towards you in the mirror. You feel the absence of identity, your perception of yourself is staring into the mirror, and the real you is staring straight back. This shocking comparison occurs in a single moment in time. And you suddenly feel more lost than ever before. The features blend together into a precarious little figure. The expression you produce in your eyes and in the bones of your face melt to create the very essence of your being. The core of your identity. The face of your entire childhood flooding together into the soft contours of your nose and mouth. Collecting a sad sort of reality that emanates from deep within your soul. whether you choose to look or not, that person is hiding just below the surface. waiting to be found. waiting to be realized. waiting for the day when you know what to do, and who to be. waiting for you to take the first steps into the two sided mirror, find your own reality, and see yourself
for who you really are.

"A human being is a part of a whole. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty" -Albert Einstein
