dark and light

once before, they told me
that we look like twins
our identities washed away in a carefree innocence.
i came to believe them, too. looking at me, and then looking back at you.
It felt like a plan spinning in motion, pushing and molding, constantly folding.
Pieces of clay at our fingertips. easy to conform, but just as easy to
change everything.
From an onlooker, we're just two kids.
Smooth olive skin, dark eyes, and caramel hair.
But within, we have something unique. We have our gifts.
And we have our curse.

The dark and the light.
An unlikely pair.
Playfully rare.
Digging deeper underneath
seeing what others cannot see
it's you. and it's me.
in all our entirety.
fighting for eternity
to live beyond our own life.
to love in darkness
and hate in light.
to watch
and to fight
free to save the misery
voicing our integrity
molding our prosperity
with unending treachery.
This is how we see
our foiled countenances separately
the darkest passion
and the brightest hope
coexisting, fervently.

"A human being is a part of a whole. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty" -Albert Einstein
