Transpired in an interchangeable bind of human spirit and intelligence, touched by a soft wind. Bound to a world of hate, a world of death. Fists clenched, teeth ground, I suffer. They suffer. For all those who fought against it. They get us to forget about what truly surrounds us. But I will never forget. The untold stories of those who tried to love in a time of torture and utter destruction, their stories, will be told. They will slice through the veil of violence and wickedness, and prevail through the hearts of the wounded and humble. One day. I will tell them. But for now, all I can do is carry their messages of hope within my own soul and live with the hope that one day I can make a difference in the world I'm living in, to change the way they see things, to have them finally see through my eyes.
My name is Naomi.
Pressing her newborn baby into her chest she runs under the cover of nightfall. Through the empty streets of downtown Chicago she desperately searches for a source of shelter for herself and her child. Coughing, cold, and tired she presses on through the darkness. A thick black fog consumed the once thriving city. She remembered a time- before the war, when she would have been sitting in her warm city apartment, wearing the latest fashions and sipping a cup of hot cider. But she was young then, full of life. She had potential for a wonderful career, to start a family... but of course, none of that was possible anymore and all her dreams faded away like an old torn up photograph. She was alone except for her one surviving baby girl. Her one last chance for survival was to escape her destroyed home and find someone, anyone, who would allow a young mother and her infant to stay with them. She knew, that it was not allowed, disobeying the order to stay indoors at all times. But she had no choice. She had no home now.
Her bare feet burned with pain, the rigid concrete tearing the delicate flesh. Every step, every minute, every day. Sometimes she would get deep wounds on her arms and legs from rubbing up against jagged debris scattered across the streets. Her energy completely drained, she took her baby and sat against the brick wall of the alley. She laid the child gently beside her and began to wrap a ragged piece of cloth she had torn from her dress haphazardly around her torn feet. Her eyes squinted in pain. She took her baby once again in her arms and stroked her soft cheeks. The baby opened her beautiful blue eyes and starred lovingly at her grieving mother.
As she stood up, terror shot through her muscle. She stood frozen in pure panic.
Across the street were two columbian commandos. her heart pounded violently in her chest. Her mind raced, searching for a way to escape the soldier's view.
