decorus animus

how beautiful a face,
if thou rememberest it forever.
how strong a countenance,
if its faith consumes thy entire soul.
how merciful a punishment,
to allow her perfection to assure thine weakness.
how profound a voice,
that speaks in the silence.
how powerful a testimony,
that she would lose a loved one,
that she would sacrifice all hope,
and put her trust in an invisible truth.
how beautiful a face,
how strong a countenance,
     how merciful,
          how profound,
                how powerful a testimony,
that it would change the world.

"A human being is a part of a whole. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty" -Albert Einstein
