an eternal friend

once upon a time
a little girl had a dream
that one day she would find a friend
in a person who would never leave.
she prayed and prayed, as years went on
her parents fought, now daddy's gone
left for good, he took the keys
to his car, and his daughter's dreams.

if god could wait a thousand years
then she could stop and hold her tears
cross her heart, hope not to cry,
she'll find a friend before she dies.

once upon a time
a young girl saw her mother lie
mommy's gonna be okay
the doctors found another way
she hoped, she prayed
she wouldn't see
the day her momma had to leave
but once upon a time
a young girl let her mother fly
with the angels in the sky
she said she would be back again
but the girl knew she had lost her friend

if god could wait a thousand years

then she could stop and hold her tears
cross her heart, hope not to cry,
she'll find a friend before she dies.

once upon a time
a little girl grew up too fast
had to learn to stand up tall
when the whole world expected her to fall
she bit her tongue, endured the pain,
lived her life, just the same.
but then her time came to an end,
and she knew she would never find her friend

so she knelt down on her knees
and pleaded, 'father, father, please
I held on to hope, held back my tears
but no one came through all those years
every friend i thought i found
was lost again, each time around.
nothing stays, it all just fades,
i have no time left now to wait...

daughter, i waited a thousand years
i held you close, i dried your tears
cross my heart, hope you to see
I am that friend, and I will never leave.

  1. Keara- this is awesome! It reminds me so much of the poem "Footprints". You should think of having it published and hold on to the rights! Your a wonderful writing and I enjoy following your blog. Aunt Sarah

"A human being is a part of a whole. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty" -Albert Einstein
